Integrative Taxonomy of Two Peruvian Strains of Brachionus plicatilis Complex with Potential in Aquaculture

Two Peruvian strains of the genus Brachionus were isolated from impacted coastal wetlands. With an integrative taxonomic view, we described their status, morphological characters, productive parameters, and phylogenetic position. In case both strains, relationship between biometrics parameters obtained with Principal Components Analysis indicated that lorica length was associated longevity, progeny, egg production, reproductive age, while width aperture maximum number eggs carried. Maximum Likelihood Bayesian Inference analysis carried out mtDNA COI gene rDNA ITS1 region showed clustered in two clades distinct positioning what is currently known for plicatilis s.l. One Z010-VL, proposed to be a subspecies L4 (B. paranguensis), other strain, Z018-SD, as sub species SM2 koreanus). addition, 33 31 aquaculture production lineages are proposed, delimited by concatenated COI+ITS1 sequences, respectively. Finally, this study provides new tools enhance traceability origin each sub-species throughout world.
